Spring Bridal Veil Falls Engagement with Kirsty & Mitch

by Utah Wedding Photographers James Erick Photography Utah

Ok, so the second engagement session with Kirsty & Mitch went perfectly. If you read the previous blog, Kirsty got sick during the last shoot so we had to reschedule. But the only time I had available and they had available was a morning session.

I'm not a fan of shooting morning sessions. First of all, I work late every night until 12 am, and many times later, so getting up early is not my favorite thing to do. Second, its really cold in the Winter in the morning. But third and more importantly, the lighting is just not as good in the morning as it is in the evening, with only a few exceptions. Bridal Veil falls is one of those exceptions.

In the afternoon when lighting is usually best, Bridal Veil Falls gets hit by the setting sun, making the light really harsh until the sun goes down, then gets dark to quick. However, in the morning, the waterfall is shaded making the light perfect for a photo shoot.

So this time a morning engagement was the perfect time to take pictures at Bridal Veil Falls. Yes, it was cold, (you can see the snow accumulation on the bridge picture) but after we hiked up to the falls, we warmed up very fast. The one other thing we had to work on was breathing. In the morning, you can usually see some ones breath as the exhale because of the dry cold. So I had to count to three and tell them to not breath for a second or two so we would not see their breath as steam.
