I had a lot of fun shooting Arianna & Matthew's Spring Little Sahara Bride & Groom Session. Spring is not exactly the best time to shoot here if you want the sand to be dry. Why is that important? Dry sand is a lot smoother and when the wind blows it smooths out the sand giving it a patterned look, and gets rid of the of roader tracks and footprints.

So where it normally is an easy place to shoot, it becomes a lot more difficult finding areas where the sand looks good.

On the other hand, its a lot less hot in Spring than the 100 degree + weather you get in the summer time. And looks nicer than the snow covered sand in the winter. So there are trade-offs.

Another difficulty with shooting at the Little Sahara Stat Park area is the sky. If there are no clouds, the sun just goes down and the whole area gets dark. If there are some clouds, that's exactly what you want because it shades the light. I call it "Gods Soft-box lighting" which is a lighting term used to light studios giving a soft light to subjects. But if its completely cloudy, the sand and the sky are flat, and it looks really bad.

Today we got a little bit of everything. Full sun, Light clouds, wet sand, but an amazing couple. I have been in Little Sahara in a wind storm, in 100+ degree weather, freezing cold, socked in clouds, and with biting fleas. Its a tough place to shoot.

But even with all that, the beauty of the sand dunes and the background mountains is one of the things that makes Utah one of the most diverse places I have ever shot. The only thing missing in Utah is a beach, and Antelope Island looks close enough without large waves.

I loved working with Arianna & Matthew. They were a lot of fun, and Arianna kept teasing Matthew, who was a little more reserved than Arianna. But they both seemed to be in their own worlds and barely noticed that i was there. Perfect!
